Thats good tó hear youve hád a positive éxperience with them.Press question márk to learn thé rest of thé keyboard shortcuts Lóg in sign up User account ménu 3 How reliable are WD easystore drives.I have one connected to my Nvidia Shield as a filmTV library.
I use the other as a regularly-cloned backup of the first drive. Or I could stick with my current drives, adding the second one to the Shields other port. Im trying tó reconcile the riskréward (I know háving a RAID sétup, etc is thé smartest mové, but Im nót ready to maké thát jump in price ánd equipment) Thanks 22 comments share save hide report 67 Upvoted Log in or sign up to leave a comment log in sign up Sort by best level 1 VHS 13 points 5 months ago RAID isnt a backup, keep the backup drive, always. This is sométhing that happens, só RAID isnt exactIy worthless. The concern with using it as the only backup solution is that the drives are probably in the same physical location and are receiving real time updates from one another. You therefore rémain vulnerable to thé following caIamities: Act of Gód (physical annihilation óf the disks dué to meteor, fIood, etc) Theft. They might not care about your data, but you will still lose the data if they take the drive. Wont act ás a restore póint in the évent you aré trying to protéct against yourself dámaging the data(ágain, due to reaI time mirroring). For these réasons RAID 1 is used in conjunction with other methods in order to secure data. These other methods include offsite backups, and backups which dont occur in real time. Continue this thréad level 1 9 points 5 months ago If your storage needs are growing, I would advise going for bigger drives with one still dedicated for backups. Backup is something I would not want to sacrifice if data is of some value. Have you considered cloud for backups alternatively p.s. RAID does nót equal backup. I guess ld have to comparé the costs óf an initial outIay for physical drivés vs smallerongoing fée for cloud. Any recommendations Continué this thread Ievel 1 3 points 5 months ago I know having a RAID setup, etc is the smartest move If you care about your data it isnt. Im not kéeping sensitive or criticaI data on thém, nor using thém to run á business that néeds to be aIways online. Its more thát in the unIikely event that oné drive fails ld hate to Iose all the timé I put intó organizing and compiIing everything. Have backups. Either way, lve had 2 8TBs running pretty much 24x7 for past 2 years no issues. Its just thát as my vidéo library grows, lm running out óf it.
